Sports Chiropractic & Rehab for Hip Pain
In today’s more sedentary culture, we're finding that the hip musculature is becoming more and more off-balance due to decreased variety of movement. Not that we're avoiding exercise and workouts all together (even though that could be the case as well) but rather the variety of movement necessary to create a well-rounded athletic hip joint.
Merely focusing our movement patterns on flexion and extension based habits like walking and sitting to standing may lead to completely ignoring the internal and external rotators of the hip as well as the Ab/Adductors. Furthermore, with our more sedentary lifestyle in general, the patterns we utilize to access our flexion and extension can lead to inhibited Gluteal Muscles and over-dominant or ‘taught’ feeling Quadriceps Muscles. These imbalances are what we attribute as a cause to a lot of chronic Hip Pains we see clinically.
Comprised of a Ball-and-Socket joint, the Hip is the second most mobile joints in your body - just slightly less mobile than our shoulder. Because of this nature, it may take on a lot of undue stress from the adjoining ares of the body. For example, we all know that we strive to have a strong or stable core, right? Well what if our system is lacking in that region? The body will 'rob Peter to pay Paul' in a sense that it will 'lock up' or stiffen the adjoining joints. This leads to more tightness or tautness of the hip joints - an area that we just discussed should be more mobile. For this reason, often our approach to addressing your hip pain will also incorporate working with the lumbar spine, the pelvis, the knee, and the foot. After all, everything is connected right?
