Dumbest Joint in the Body
The knee has one primary job - flex and extend. If it is forced to excessively rotate or laterally bend because of hip or foot dysfunction, that is when we see knee pain.
Of course, this namely goes for non-traumatic injuries (overuse and disuse injuries.) If you get hit while playing soccer and tear your ACL that is a different story.. kind of. You still excessively rotated and laterally bent and therefore led to injury to your ligament - but it wasn’t by choice!
This “Victim vs. Culprit” idea is why it is so important to properly assess up and down the kinetic chain with a movement assessment. From this we can accurately discern where your biomechanics are faltering rather than just where the symptoms are located.
Have knee pain? When was the last time someone looked at your gait? What about your squat? Or your footprint?
