“We’re not better. We’re just different.”
I struggled to find the most precise way to illustrate the difference between what we do and what a “normal chiropractor” does until I had a phone call today with a potential patient and the phrase above just came out of my mouth without thinking.
As Sports Chiropractors we work to solve the puzzle of WHY you’re feeling the way you’re feeling. This means a more thorough assessment as well as more thorough treatment. It doesn’t stop there. The person who has the most control of the situation is the patient - so we expect them to do some work as well in-between sessions.
Don’t Chiropractors just crack your back?!
There’s so much more to it than that.
The way I see it, my main focus as a chiropractor is to get you feeling better. Bottom line. If I at least do that, I am doing my job.
This means going beyond the simple adjustments. It means working the muscles, ligaments, blood flow, motor control and corrective exercise individually designed to get you to your specific goals.
Dynamic vs Static stretching has been a battle in the sports world for many years. Some say to only do dynamic, some say to only use static, and some say to do a bit of both. And I already know your next question because I have it too, Who the heck are you supposed to listen to? Hopefully, I can shine a bit of light on that today!
